Today is Pentecost, a major feast in the church, when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem. From the earliest times, this has been a holy day and the church has come to regard Pentecost as the day the first church was born. Traditionally, white robes were worn at Pentecost and that’s how its other name Whitsun or White Sunday became a name used in the church calendar.
We are honoured to host the Civic Service for Taunton Deane and welcome and pray for our new Mayor, Councillor Catherine Herbert. We welcome the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and other distinguished guests. It is appropriate this weekend for the service to conclude with one verse of the national anthem. We wish Harry and Megan our best wishes as they begin married life together.
