Mothering Sunday

Welcome to you all on this Mothering Sunday. We do hope you will stay for fellowship after the service with tea or coffee and even a piece of cake! Traditionally we have a Simnel cake today.

Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday in Lent and it is good to see that many shops are now selling Mothering Sunday cards as opposed to Mothers’ Day which is an American festival and does not relate to our church festival. Historically Mothering Sunday was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants, were given a Sunday off to visit their Mothers and attend church with them. Life has moved on since then but mothering is such an important role and these days it is carried out by differing family members according to need. A big “ Thank you” to all those in such a caring role.
