FLOWER FESTIVAL 2015
10th – 12th July
“In Celebration of Marriage”
“It has been six years since the flower team organised a flower festival at St Mary Magdalene Church. If you were here then you will remember that it coincided with the 700th anniversary of the founding of the church. The designs spoke of the way the church had borne witness over the centuries, standing beside the people of Taunton during times of great sadness and great joy.
It is one of those times of joy that we are going to explore in word and floral design. Rev. Corke suggested that as we have so many weddings at St Mary Magdalene Church it would be a good time to link a festival with this theme. There will be many expressions of the actual wording from the marriage service and opportunities to think about the place that our bells and organ have for so many of our couples.
Living as we do so close to the willow growing area around the Somerset levels we are collaborating with several willow growers and weavers, most particularly Coates English Willow, so do look out for the bells, sculpted figures and wedding rings.
There are four opportunities to be part of the Flower Festival.
- The first is to volunteer to act as stewards over the three days covered by the festival. If you feel you can spare two hours of your time please contact Dianne Bayliss.
- The second is to sponser one of the displays. If you feel that you would like to help us in this way please speak to Cheryl Birkett either in church or by phone, 01823 412751.
- The third way you can help is to offer greenery as some of the designs require a great deal of foliage. I have had a particular request for eucalyptus so if you can help with this or greenery generally, please contact Cheryl Birkett.
- Lastly, we have much pleasure in inviting you to the Preview and Concert evening to be held on Thursday 9th July at 7.30pm at St Mary Magdalene Church. There will be organ music, choral music, instrumentalists and readings all with a marriage theme and will be led by our Director of Music Miles Quick. The tickets are available from the Book Shop or at the door on the evening from the end of May.”
