Taunton Choral Society – Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle
Date & Time: 13/07/19 - 7:30pm
Taunton Choral Society round off their 2018/19 season of Italian Masters on Saturday 13th July with Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.
This, the finest work of Rossini’s late years, is neither “small” nor “solemn” nor strictly a “Mass”! Written when he was 71, he inscribed it as a “sin of old age” and is full of the vigour and humour that has characterised this season’s music.
It will be performed in the less common but highly exciting version for two pianos andharmonium (a kind of reed organ), conducted from one of the pianos by our MD, Ed Goater.
We are also thrilled to present the 2019 Somerset Song Prize winner James Atkinson as our baritone soloist, Eamonn Mulhall as our tenor soloist and to welcome back some well known and familiar friends, mezzo soprano Louise Innes and soprano Lorna Anderson. Come and join us for a glass of wine and an operatic thrill that always delivers!
And don’t miss Musical Director Ed Goater’s fascinating ‘Cracking the Code’ pre-concert talk which is included in the ticket price
