On 2nd November at 7.30pm we are holding an All Souls’ Service to remember those who have passed into glory.
Names will be read out during the service and, if you would like a loved one remembered, simply write the details on the sheet we have placed at the back of church.
“Some while ago we invited you to fill in a time and talents form and, although the response was not huge, those who returned their forms were offering much needed help, Thank you so much. Without volunteers this church could not function in the way it does.”
Rod Corke, Vicar
Lots of folk have taken shoeboxes to fill for children to enjoy in countries where incomes are low.
The return date is 10th November and if you miss this, your box will not be sent.
Thank you to everyone who are taking part and to Martin and Ashton Banks who are organising it.
“Don’t forget the Signature Barn Dance Event on 11th November at Creech St Michael Village Hall.
Rita and I are practising our Dosey Doe and looking forward to a Fish and Chip Supper.”
The Community Peregrine project is developing with sponsorship from Coomber Alarm systems moving us very close to our target. We will try to obtain a speedy faculty for the electrical work involved so we can set the cameras up before the next breeding season. We hope to display the viewing TV in the North pew section near the flower prep area. No church money has been involved in this project.
We have produced a colour edition of this Today Sheet to demonstrate the quality of the new church photocopier. The copier also folds (no more work for the Book shop elves!) and staples when necessary. It is quick and amazing!
There are lots of folk who are new to St Mary’s and we are delighted you have joined us so we can worship God together and serve our local community.
There is a special Welcome Tea for us all to enjoy on Sunday 29th October at 3.30pm.
There is no need to RSVP – just come! It will be an opportunity to learn more about the church.
The churchwardens and I would like to see as many folk there as possible so we can get to know you better.
Come and hear more about what is going on at St Mary’s and meet the team. You will be made most welcome.
The choir will be singing at Choral Evensong at St Mary Magdalene Church on Sunday 29th October at 6.30 pm as their special thanksgiving for and tribute to Brian Cresswell, our Musical Director for 15 years. Some of Brian’s music will be sung at this peaceful service and all are welcome.
The first Organic Appetiser will be on Sunday 22nd October after the 10am service. We will gather near Father Willis and enjoy a delicious canapé and a demonstration of a choice flavour from Father Willis’s palette of sounds! This month Miles will be demonstrating the soft reed stops – with the aid of a beautiful Prélude by César Franck (written at about the same time that the organ was built).
Please do join us and donate if possible to the retiring collection – to help get us up to the final amount needed for the renovations.

Here are some photos from Sheila’s Licensing service which was held on September 30th 2017 in North Yorkshire at 3.00pm. Sheila was licensed as House for Duty Priest of the Parishes of St John the Baptist, Bishop Monkton and St Leonard’s Church, Burton Leonard. The Bishop was Nicholas, Lord Bishop of Leeds, who is often on Thought for the Day, so some of you may well know of him. The St Mary’s group are representing Thursday Manna Home Group, plus Rod and Daphne.
“A huge thank you for those from St Mary’s who travelled up to N Yorkshire for my Licensing service. It was lovely to see some familiar smiling faces in the congregation. Also thank you to so many of you who very kindly sent Andy and me cards. It was a really special day, and my first Sunday although busy was amazing – 2 Harvest All Age services as well as a BCP HC. In all over 200 adults and 65 children attended. Since then I’ve also been to a school Harvest thanksgiving, a Harvest lunch and I’ve already had two weddings booked for next year! Thank you again for all the love and prayers you have sent. And I wish you all well at St Mary Magdalene.” Sheila
“Many thanks for the lovely display of hats and bootees we were able to show in the Mother’s Union Service in Church on the 8th October. The Maternity Unit are always so grateful for our donations.”
