Dedication of Book of Remembrance

The Soldier’s Corner

We are pleased to welcome today members of The Rifles and Light Infantry Association. We have extended an informal invitation to The Association to join us as they are bringing a new Book of Remembrance to be placed in the Soldier’s Corner. This will include the names of those who have died in service since the Second World War.  Lt Col Ray Hall will present it to me for dedication. We welcome also this morning some distinguished guests, including the Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Lieutenant and our Mayor, who are here in their capacity as supporters of The Rifles and Light Infantry Association.   The dedication will replace the children’s talk in this service. We invite everyone to stay for coffee afterwards but if you would like to hear the tune ‘Who would true valour see’ played on the carillon please go outside before you have your coffee.  This is the tune which The Rifles and Light Infantry Association so generously sponsored for the Bell Appeal.

Stewardship Challenge

Good Christian stewardship is about how we respond prayerfully and sacrificially to God’s generosity towards us. As well as considering our financial giving, stewardship is about how we use our time and talents for our Lord. Later in the year, we will be conducting a ‘time and talents’ survey, giving people opportunities to help with the smooth running of the church.

We have produced a leaflet called “G.I.F.T. – Growing in Faith Together” which details a summary of our current finances and sets the need out clearly. We are God’s people in this beautiful church and all our resources come from our congregation who generously and freely provide. We are very grateful for this but we need to listen to God’s word and prayerfully consider the fresh challenge that is set before us today.

Stewardship Sunday

“Today our focus is on stewardship, as we seek to address a significant financial shortfall projected for this financial year. Good Christian stewardship is about how we respond prayerfully and sacrificially to God’s generosity towards us.
