On Sunday we have our first Worship@5 for 2017 and Dennis will be leading us. The title is an intriguing one – “Is Cleanliness Really Next To Godliness?” How do we get close to God? By washing? How do we get a clean conscience? Only God can cleanse us deep down inside.

Do come and explore with us.

Prayer Meetings

At the beginning of a new year, it is right to put all we are doing to God in prayer and to listen for his voice. So, last Thursday, a team of folk set up St Mary’s for two specific times of prayer, focusing on our relationship with outside organisations and the events /services we hold in church. We were delighted that over 30 folk came and helped us put prayer at the heart of all we do.

Accession Service

Our Queen has been unwell over Christmas but is now improving. This year marks the 63rd anniversary of her accession to the throne and to mark the occasion we will enjoy Choral Evensong on Sunday 5th February at 6.30pm. We are honoured that Dr Daniel Newman will return to preach for us.

W@5 – Is cleanliness really next to Godliness?

How do we get close to God? By washing? How do we get a clean conscience? Only God can cleanse us deep down inside. Come and find out how. We start at 5:00pm but the doors are open from 4:30 for a chat and a cuppa.

Christmas Time

There is so much to report. The crib service was wonderful fun, the children and adults hearing a retelling of the nativity story and experiencing Jesus as “The Light of the World. “ The First Communion of Christmas was special this year with “The First Noel” being played on the carillon at the end of the service. The angel doors were opened and this heavenly music drifted into the church. It was a magical moment when the Holy Spirit felt close to us. Bethlehem was the theme of the 8.00am and 10.00am services on Christmas morning and the children brought their presents to show us. On New Year’s Day this year, we were invited to join our friends at St John the Evangelist for their Patronal Service. We enjoyed a great fellowship and we had a worshipful morning praising God together. St John’s will be joining with us in the summer when we celebrate our Patronal Festival.

Revd Jane Eastell would like to thank everyone at St Mary Magdalene who came and supported the Patronal Festival Benefice service on Sunday 1st January 2017.  This was a wonderful start to the new year and we now look forward to sharing with you in July!

Healing Services

Our Healing Services together with the Laying on of Hands will begin again on Sunday 14th January, 2018 at and will continue monthly on the second Sunday of the month.   This service is open to everyone and will include hymns, a reading and prayers for healing in mind and body, with the Laying on of Hands for those who wish it. The Healing Grace of God is open to all, as it was in the beginning and is now.

The Epiphany

Tomorrow we are celebrating the Epiphany – when we remember the wise men coming to Mary and Joseph and bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. At 10.00 am there will be a Family Communion and the children will make celebratory crowns which they will parade during “Joy To The World” -the final carol. The wise men figures, who began their annual tour of St Mary Magdalene’s at the high altar, have passed through the organ shelf and finally arrived at the crib. They have a message for us all.
