Chaplaincy Volunteering at MPH

Chaplaincy Volunteering at Musgrove Park Hospital

Every day of the week volunteer Chaplains help to meet the spiritual needs of our patients.  On weekdays our volunteers visit patients on the wards, on Saturday mornings they assist with administration and on Sundays take Communion to the patient’s bedside or assist at the Chapel Service Our next training course begins in early February.

For further information about each of these roles contact the Chaplains.

‘Healing for All’ Service

Healing is important to us at St Mary Magdalene, both physical and spiritual. Our laying on of hands team are very dedicated and prayerful people. In addition to their work we have arranged for another healing service at 3 o’clock on Sunday 31st January. This will be a time when we will invite the Holy Spirit to work among us. We are experimenting with these services and this will be without communion. Do come.

Signature Event Success

On Wednesday evening, we enjoyed the Signature event – an Indian meal at the Bayleaf Restaurant in East Reach. It was a splendid evening, with good food and good company.

Signature events are open to all and are a great way of getting to know folk better.

The next Signature event is a Beetle Drive and wine and cheese evening. Details to follow.

5 O’Clock Service

Last week we held our 5 O’Clock Worship for the first time. The months of planning paid off and the service went smoothly. We really sensed God’s Holy Spirit with us as Dennis talked about how we can fit God into our busy lives. He suggested we try to start the day with God – just a simple prayer perhaps or short reading from the Bible. It is amazing what a difference this can make to our lives. Over 50 people came and a good proportion of these were folk from the community. We are all looking forward to the next 5 O’Clock Worship on the third Sunday of the month, which is the 21st February, and the intriguing title is: “What do you do when life gives you lemons?” Do come.

Lent Talks

“During Lent, we will be holding a series of talks beginning  Wednesday 17th February, 7.30pm in the Upper Room. Sheila and I will be leading them.  The focus will be on our understanding of Holy Communion. We will be using the Pilgrim support material which has been produced recently by the Church of England. We really do hope you will be able to join us.”
