Thank You

Message from Nigel and Cheryl Birkett: We would like to thank all those at St Mary Magdalene’s who have given freely of their love and care during these last few weeks leading up to and following the death of Cheryl’s mother – Emily Bray. We have felt truly held, encircled and uplifted by your love. Thankyou.

Signature Event – Lunch at the Quantock Restaurant

HAVE YOU SIGNED UP YET? No? Well, it’s not too late!

The next Signature Event is lunch at the Quantock Restaurant at SCAT on Thursday, 22nd October. We’ll meet there at 12.30pm where we can enjoy either a two course or three course meal.

For two courses, either a starter and mains or mains and pudding, the cost is £10, or, for three courses, £12. Sign the sheet at the back of the church (near the pigeon holes) and make your options at the same time. We always enjoy a good meal at the Restaurant and I’m sure this time won’t be any different! See you there!

2016 Calendars

The bellringers have published a very attractive calendar to raise money for the Bell Fund. It has room on it to make notes and is made up of photographs taken by the bellringers and members of the congregation. They are £5 each and are available in the bookshop.

Home Groups

  • Manna next meets on 1st October at 1.00pm as usual
  • John Lee’s Home Group will meet on 21st September at Fred and Rosemary’s
  • Agape continues to meet on first and third Tuesdays of each month at 2.15pm in the Upper Room. We are making good progress through the Letter to the Hebrews and would welcome newcomers.

‘Father Willis’ Organ Renovation Project

Church Inside (1) - Organ

For decades now the renovation of our magnificent Father Willis organ has been discussed. However because it has struggled on with being patched up from time to time, the day for refurbishment has been postponed again and again.

We are now in circumstances that require an urgent replacement of all leathers together with much more besides. This work is estimated to cost £196,000. This is an enormous sum and yet it will not reduce with time but increase.

If you would like to keep abreast of our progress or maybe even make a donation yourself, you can do so at our MyDonate page.

In this video, you can see and hear first hand what we are up against as our Director of Music, Miles Quick, valiantly puts our ‘Father Willis’ through his paces and explains all.

Consecration of The Ven Ruth Worsley

“On Tuesday, Nigel and I visited St Paul’s Cathedral for the consecration of the Ven. Ruth Worsley, as Bishop of Taunton. The service was enjoyable and celebratory, heralded by the Psalm Drummers. The drummers drummed at the beginning and the end and the sound carried all the way around the cathedral. Magnificent! Hopefully Bishop Ruth will visit us very soon. I will put the service booklet at the back of Church.”

Service of Collation of Cannons

Last week we collated Jenny and John as Canon’s of Lusaka Cathedral on behalf of Dean Fr Charley. Bishop David lead us and preached. Jenny and John reflected what a happy occasion it was.

At our Church Family Communion Service on Sunday and we are delighted to be using new service books for the first time.

Thank you to the team who worked on this.

Christianity Explored

“This week Christianity Explored began and we were delighted with the response. The first session looked at “Good News” and we are exploring Mark’s Gospel together. It is still possible to join – just see Shelia or me.”
