Bells Project

We are delighted to announce that an anonymous loan has been offered to bridge the gap in the funding for the St Mary’s Bell project. This means, whilst the fundraising and grant seeking will continue, we can give the project the go-ahead. This is wonderful news, and our bellringing fundraising team have worked very hard to achieve it. Congratulations to them. Miles updated the PCC on the project to repair our Father Willis organ. Amongst the ideas offered will be sponsorship of the organ pipes. There are over 2000 pipes in this magnificent instrument. Watch this space for more news about this.

“We also celebrate the completion of a major historical work by Dennis. He has finished his book  “Through the Eyes of the Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene – 1300 Years of Christian Witness Through the Churches in Taunton.” This a superbly written and researched history of our church. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to buy a copy but the book can be loaned  from  the Bookshop for three weeks. Dennis’ popular “St Mary Magdalene Church Guide Book” and his “The Towering Influence” short history book are both on sale. Dennis pesented a copy to me to keep at the Vicarage for all those who will follow as Vicar. The book tells me I am the 43rd vicar.”

Laying on of Hands Team

Today our theme at 10.00am is healing and we will be commissioning our “Laying on of Hands” prayer team who regularly offer prayer support to those who need it both after we have received Communion and at the end of the service. At St Mary Magdalene we believe strongly in the power of God to heal us through his Holy Spirit, and Ben will be preaching and developing out thoughts further on this.

Wednesday Breakaway

0 Comments

We are delighted the first meeting of Breakaway was a great success and we thank Sasha for all her hard work. The toys in the children’s corner were scrubbed clean by the group as they enjoyed fellowship with one another.

This is an open group and new members would be most welcome.  We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 9.30am in the children’s corner to take part in a variety of activities over tea and cake.

Here is what we have to look forward to over the next couple of months:-

  • Wed November 4th – Card Making;
  • Wed December 2nd – Joint Advent Service with Mothers Union Group.  Please note that this is at 10:00am and not 9:30am.

So, if you have done the school run, have some spare time in the working week or just like chatting over cake, come and join us. You will be very welcome!

“Thanks too to those who helped repair the church path with an infilling of tarmac and to our caretaker, Tim, who has made a screen to hide an unattractive corner in the lower stairs area near the toilet block. I am also delighted to announce that eleven folk have agreed to bake cakes for the Coffee Shop. This will begin on November 1st.”
