Three of the cakes will be chosen to be cut up as the ‘Wedding Cakes’ at the evening reception. Cakes can be brought to St James’ Hall in good time before the service. “As you can see when you pass the church railings we have been “yarn bombed” and the knitted pennants have decorated the church all week. Thank you to all who have helped knit and if you have not seen it already, do go to Bath Place where the yarn bombing has gone crazy!  I wondered if you saw the mirror installation that was displayed in the church yard allowing us to see this magnificent building from new angles.”

Sea Sunday

“Today we celebrate Sea Sunday instead of on the 9th July.  It was transferred because of our highly successful Flower and Patronal Festivals.  A special welcome to The Revd Peter Ellis and his wife Judi. Peter is preaching today and representing The Mission To Seafearers. They have been staying with Ronnie and Gillian as Ronnie has worked for the Mission for many years himself. I have fond memories of the Mission to Seafarers having spent thirteen years working next to the Port of Felixstowe. Seafarer chaplains do vital work pastorally supporting seamen from countries all over the world and providing spiritual support and sustenance. Peter began his association with The Mission to Seafarers in 1968 when he was a student helper in Hamburg. From there Peter has worked in ports in Milford Haven, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Teesside. We look forward to God’s message given through Peter this morning.”

“Last weekend was our Patronal Festival and we enjoyed the singing of the Chapel Choir of Lincoln College, Oxford. We delighted in welcoming our friends Bishop David and his wife Janice. David has written to me and said “It was a great privilege to be part of such a wonderful occasion in the life of St Mary Magdalene. It was obvious that your team had planned everything down to the finest detail and I cannot think of many parishes nowadays who can present worship in such an accomplished and inspiring way, which is a great tribute to you all.” I have written to Bishop David to thank him for his powerful ministry amongst us.”

Patronal Festival

“On Sunday 19th July, we remember St Mary Magdalene our Patronal Saint. Mary Magdalene travelled with Jesus as one of his followers. She witnessed Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Within the four Gospels she is named at least 12 times, more than most of the apostles. She came from the town of Magdala which was a town on the western side of the Sea of Galilee. The Hebrew word “Magdala” means tall tower or fortress or elevated, great magnificence.

We welcome The Rt Revd David Yeoman and his wife Janice to help us celebrate our Patronal Festival.

At this service, we also see the launch of the music and arts festival Taunton Live and we are thrilled to have The Chapel Choir of Lincoln College, Oxford with us here this morning.  The choir sing under the direction of Brodwen Mills in the College’s beautiful 16th Century chapel. They have recently toured Poland and we are so glad they are with us. The Taunton Live Festival is organised by a team lead by Brian Cresswell – so look out for some high quality music being performed this week.”
