New Benefice Service

Sunday evening we have a special celebration. The Bishop of Taunton, The Rt. Revd Peter Morris is coming to help us inaugurate the new benefice of St Mary Magdalene and St John the Evangelist.  We are looking forward to working with our neighbouring church and supporting each other in our mission to Taunton.

At the service, Rod will be inducted as the first incumbent of the new benefice.  Jane Eastell will be Associate Vicar (with responsibility for the St. John’s parish).  Dennis will be Associate Priest and Sheila will become Benefice Curate. The PCC’s and the parishes remain separate legal identities contained within the legal “wrapper” of a benefice.  During the service each church will present to the other a copy of the Common Worship Prayer Book inscribed with the date of inception.

Please come to the service and pray for this new venture. There will be a light buffet afterwards and we give thanks to the catering teams from both churches for providing refreshments.

Let the bells ring out!

Caroline Martin’s daughter, Elizabeth, is running in aid of Cancer Research.

There is a sponsor form at the back of church if you wish to sponsor her.

Leaflets for Exercise

Do you feel like taking a little additional exercise?

If so, please could you help to deliver Christmas and Easter leaflets twice a year?

It only involves putting one leaflet into the letter box of each household in an area of between 40 and 112 properties.  Nothing else is involved.

We have a few vacant areas and you are welcome to select the size of area you have time for.

The Easter leaflets are now ready for distribution and are being delivered around the parish.  Copies of the leaflet can be found at the back of Church.

We have 4,000 of these leaflets printed and Roy and Mary Sims work very hard arranging the distribution of them. Please help if you can. Speak to Rod or the Parish Office.

Lent Talks

During Lent, Revd Dennis Cavaghan is leading us in a series of Lent talks on an acrostic “CROSS”.

The sermon, Ash and Cross, on Ash Wednesday set the theme ‘CROSS’ for the following weekly talks.

We meet on Thursdays at 7:30 pm, beginning on the 13th March and continuing through to the 10th April.  There will be tea and coffee afterwards.

In addition to clicking the above links to hear the various talks, they will also be posted on our Sermons page.

Do come and journey with us through Lent.

READING:  Philippians 2:5-8

“Have this mind among yourselves, which you have in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.”

New Benefice

Our Vicar writes

“On the 18th February we became a legal benefice with St. John the Evangelist and this means we have a new ministry team. I am Incumbent of the new Benefice, Jane Eastell is Associate Vicar (with responsibility for St John’s parish), Dennis is Associate Priest and Sheila is Benefice Curate. Our three Readers, Daphne, Peter and Ronnie’s POT licences remain unchanged. The associate clergy – Dennis, Jane and Sheila – have received their new licences from the Archdeacon. I will be licensed as Vicar on 6th April at 6.30pm in a Eucharist presided by the Bishop of Taunton.

We hope this service will be a celebration of what God is doing here – building unity and oneness as it says in Ephesians 4.3-6:

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
