“Several folk have joined us recently and, if you have, then you are invited to the Welcome Tea at the vicarage opposite the church.
Rita and I look forward to greeting you and making you feel welcome.
The tea begins at 3.00pm on Sunday 30th October.”
Rod Corke, Vicar
This coming week marks the conclusion of the shoebox appeal and Martin and Ashton have asked if you would bring back your boxes before 4th November and place them in the pews on the south side of church. Please try not to miss the deadline because we cannot ship late arriving boxes. Thank you all for taking part in this.
It is not too late if you would still like to fill a shoebox.
Thank you for allowing Taunton’s two Rotary Clubs to collect in the churchyard. Over one thousand pounds was donated by members of the public. The money, which was raised to help victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, will mainly be shared between Shelterbox and Water Survival boxes.
Members of Charis, the charity we have helped form, are busy preparing a cultural awareness day and safeguarding day for all involved in preparation for receiving our first family of refugees. There is a big meeting aimed at encouraging us all at Taunton Baptist Church on Friday 11th November at 7.30 pm. Bishop Ruth will be speaking and all are welcome.
We are looking forward to hearing our new ring of bells and 21st November is the start date for the fitting of the new frame. We will need to use the south porch during that week but, from that point onwards, we are hoping to keep the main doors open as much as possible. In early December the bells will be hoisted up and put in place. It is beginning to happen – it really is exciting! The official opening is on Sunday 19th March 2017 at 2.30pm when Bishop Peter will conduct a special service of thanksgiving and dedication.
Feeling lonely? Come for some company and activities plus a nice hot drink! You will be most welcome to join us and perhaps make new friends.
Christianity Explored, our new discipleship course, began last week but ran into a problem. The DVD failed to work. This has now been repaired and we plan to go ahead at 7.00 pm on Wednesday. It does give folk who may have missed the original start date the chance to come along and join in. You will be made most welcome. Come on your own or bring a friend.
“This week a Greater Chapter meeting was held at St Michael’s Galmington. This included all clergy and readers licensed or retired in our Deanery. We explored the Diocese new vision statement:
“In response to God’s immense love for us, we seek to be God’s people living and telling the story of Jesus.”
It was a stimulating and challenging evening.”

“The Shoebox Appeal is going well and Martin, Ashton and I are thrilled with the number of shoeboxes that have been taken. Please note that the shoeboxes need to be returned to St Mary’s by Friday 4th November at the latest. The shoeboxes will be distributed to needy children in Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Pakistan , Romania, Serbia and the Ukraine. Thank you for all your efforts.”
Rod Corke, Vicar
Donate a gift to someone in need. If you would still like to fill a shoebox there are some leaflets at the back of church and there are empty boxes available if you need one.
The musicians are trying to organise themselves even better and would be most grateful if anyone had either a two or a four drawer filing cabinet they could have.
Please speak to Miles Quick if you are able to help.
