A splendid day was had by the 16 who sailed from Exmouth to Brixham via Torquay and back.

The sun shone and all were grateful to Margaret Allen for organising the trip.

Weekend Away

“The Ammerdown Weekend was organised by Shelia, Jean and Diana and we thank them for all they did to ensure its success. The pictures of the weekend can be found on our acclaimed website. I would like to thank Dennis too who held the fort here at St Mary Magdalene.  Again Dennis’ sermon and children’s talk (well worth hearing and seeing) is on the website.”

Flower Festival ~ 9th – 12th July

Our focus now moves to two big events that are happening here in July. The first is the Flower Festival We do hope you are helping to publicise this by telling your friends, neighbours and family. So much hard work has gone into this and we look forward to it with eager anticipation. Tickets for the opening concert, priced at £10, are now on sale from the Bookshop.  One consequence of this is that the Thursday Communion on 9th July will have to be cancelled due to the flower arranging and amount of activity going on in the Church. The Friday Communion will be unaffected.

We will need a number of stewards for this event. Please volunteer to help by signing up on the rota by the notice boards or contact Diane Bayliss. Thank you.

Patronal Festival – 19th July

The following week is the Patronal Festival which is also the launch of Taunton Live – a summer festival celebrating the performing and creative arts. We will welcome at the 10.00 am service on 19th July our friend, Bishop David Yeoman, his wife Janice and the choir from Lincoln College Oxford. We will finish with a bring and share lunch to which everyone is invited.

Prayer Book Society

PRAYER BOOK SOCIETY St Mary Magdalene’s is a corporate member of the PBS, so we receive copies of their newsletter. One is posted at the back of church, and there is one spare copy available to take away, but please return when you have finished with it.

Signature Events’ Boat Trip

There is another of our popular Signature events arranged. A boat trip to Torquay/ Brixham on Thursday 25th June 2015: departing Exmouth at 10.15am. If this appeals to you, you will be made most welcome. Further details are found inside. Just sign your name at the back of Church. Signature Events are social outings that are open to all.

Festival of Flowers

Very soon will be THE FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS in Celebration of Marriage. Do come and see the wonderful displays created by gifted flower arrangers and by Coates English Willow and other willow weavers. Our flower team have been planning this for a long time and I am very confident that the displays will be spectacular.

There is a preview with a concert (tickets £10) on Thursday 9th July at 7.30pm. Admission is free to the Festival on Friday and Saturday (10th & 11th July) from 9am to 5pm, and again on Sunday 1pm to 5pm. Please invite family, friends and neighbours to come along. All monies raised will go the the Organ Renovation Appeal and to the Bell Fund.

We will need a number of stewards for this event. Please volunteer to help by signing up on the rota by the notice boards or contact Diane Bayliss. Thank you.

“Next weekend forty church members will be going on the Parish House Party at The Ammerdown Centre, Radstock. The weekend will be led by The Ven. Nicola Sullivan, Archdeacon of Wells and Shelia and I are sure a really good time will be had. We are really grateful to Dennis who will be leading the morning services and Peter Ball, a Reader from Wilton Parish, who will be taking Evensong.”

Taunton Live 2015 – Festival Service of Praise

Our Patronal Festival is on 19th July and this year St Mary Magdalene’s Day will be very special. As part of the Taunton Live Festival we have at our 10:00 am Holy Communion service two special guests. The first is the choir from Lincoln College Oxford and the second is Rt Rev David Yeoman who is the retired Bishop of Llandaff and a friend of ours at St Mary’s.

We would like to continue the celebrations after the service and so we are planning a “bring and share” lunch for all of us to enjoy. Full details will be given soon.

Taunton Live 2015 will be a musical feast in Taunton from 18 – 25 July and a “what’s on” brochure is available at the back of church.

Christian Aid Appeal for Nepal

“The total raised to date by St. Mary’s for the Christian Aid Appeal for Nepal is £1,000, in addition to a further contribution of £237 for the general funds of Christian Aid Week. May I say a huge thank you to all those who contributed by way of donations and time.  A good result of which we can be proud.”
