A Visit from Fr Charley

We are pleased to welcome Fr. Charley from The Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka who will be joining us from the middle of November for several days.

We are so grateful to Richard and Margaret Austin who have offered to host him.

We do need to meet to decide what we can do as a parish to make Charley’ s visit special.

The date will be published next week.

We do hope you will be able to come to the Harvest Festival Services on 6th October.

The 10.00 am service is followed by a bring and share lunch. The list is filling up fast so don’t miss out!

Thank you again for your generosity.

Shoebox Appeal

Kim Dunster who organised the Shoebox Appeal has decided not to organise it this year but we hope it will return in 2014.

Rachel Lee spotted the following video clip about the shoeboxes on You Tube called “Journey of a Shoebox in Three Minutes “. Well worth a look!

Congratulations Jane and David!

It was lovely to attend the wedding of Jane and David Vass Ward last weekend. It went so well and it was a joy to see Paul too.

We wish them both every happiness and may God’s blessing be upon them.

There is a proposed new Benefice of St. Mary Magdalene and St. John the Evangelist which is being legally formed and is likely to come into being early in the new year.

Rod will be the first incumbent.  Do look at the legal work which relates to the new benefice with St. Johns.

If you have any questions, please ask the church wardens.

Foodbank

During the summer holidays we are supporting some families whose children usually get free school meals. We also pack parcels for the new Foodbank in Wellington.

Due to the demand we are in desperate need of tins of the following:

  • Peas, carrots sweet corn etc.
  • Fish – sardines or tuna
  • Meat – both meals e.g. hotdogs or spam or cornbeef, etc. Small tins are very useful.

These items go into every parcel.

Thank you for your support and be assured that these parcels are for emergencies only and are only given out with an approved referral on a limited time scale.

Please see the notice board at the back of church for more details.

It is now possible to put your name down at the back of Church for Christianity Explored . Christianity Explored is a course which goes through Christian basics. There will be lots of opportunities to ask any questions about the faith. No one will be made to feel embarrassed or asked to do something they could be uncomfortable with. Each evening will begin with tea and cake and the aim is that it will be informal and very relaxed.

The course lasts six weeks and begins on Wednesday 30th October at 7.30pm.

If you are able to bake a cake for a session and /or would be prepared to stay to help wash up, please add your name to a separate sign up sheet at the back.

“Ride & Stride” time is here!

Time to get lubricating so everything runs smoothly…and that’s just you! It’s also time to get the bike running nicely as well, if you prefer two wheels to two feet. Yes, this is a quick reminder that “Ride & Stride” time is here again.

The nationally designated day is Saturday, 14th September. So, on that day, the more who can be involved the merrier. Our local church will be open until dusk, and we hope visitors will pay us a call.

And, of course, there is still time for members of our own congregation to decide to take part. If two wheels or your own two feet don’t appeal, there is no reason why you shouldn’t saddle up and ride and stride out on horseback!

The Friends website (www.fscandc.org.uk) has all the details, but a quick reminder that the money which, as a participant, you raise – either as an entrance fee or by sponsorship – will be split between two good causes; one is of your own choosing, and the other is the grant fund from which the Friends support work in our churches.

Good luck!
